Due to the growing global success of the Iranian cinema, the first Iranian International Film Market (IFM) was established in 1998, in coincidence with the celebration of Fajr International Film Festival in February.
When, Times Magazine named the Iranian cinema “The Home of The World’s Most Reliable Art-Film Industry” in its millennium edition, IFM was taking its initial steps with the presence of Iranian exhibitors, international buyers, and festival programmers. Moreover, at the same time the IFM began to showcase Iran’s latest production for market participants.
In 2004, the main agenda was to host an important cultural exchange event in the region. Therefore, in the seventh edition of the International Film Market, different companies were invited from all around the world to present and distribute their films and TV productions.
As a result, gradually the IFM became a platform for cultural exchange as well as the distribution of films and TV programs produced in the region.
In 2015, the international section of Fajr Film Festival and the IFM were separated from the national section of the festival as an independent event.
