The World Film Festival Kolkata will take place from August 15 to 21 at Nandan, the West Bengal Film Centre in Kolkata. This year’s edition features selected films from Iran, Germany, India, the U.S., Sri Lanka, Portugal, Brazil, Japan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Russia in its final competition section.
According to the festival’s official announcement, 37 films addressing social and environmental concerns from around the world have been shortlisted. "The Forgotten", directed by Saeed Nabi and Maryam Khadivi, is among seven documentaries competing for the festival’s top award in the non-fiction category.
This year, the jury will present three awards: Best Feature Film (60+ minutes), Best Short Fiction Film (under 60 minutes), and Best Non-Fiction Film (under 90 minutes).
"The Forgotten" tells the true story of Abdol Kazem Saki, an Iranian Paralympic and world champion medalist who lives near Hoor al-Azim Wetland and strives daily to maintain his physical fitness. The documentary was previously nominated at the Russian International Ecological TV Festival to SAVE and PRESERVE.
